Lust for Life

“…Of course I’ve had it in the ear before,
‘Cause of a lust for life.”
– Iggy Pop / David Bowie

Sitting around.
Watching tv.
Smoking cigarettes.
Drinking rum.

Something is stirring
inside of you.
Are you retrieving your self esteem?
Are you finally waking up?
Are you finding your
lust for life?

How many more days
are you willing to piss away?
You might survive
50 years more,
(that’s if you’re lucky).

But time is not promised to you.
You could die tomorrow.
And do you want to die feeling good?
Feeling proud of who you were?
Or feeling like you wasted your life?

So why don’t you take better care of yourself?
Why don’t you get up
off your backside.
Get out into the world.
Stop complaining.
Stop breathing tar into your lungs.
Stop wrecking your liver.
Stop abusing your body,
with all that fucking alcohol.

Get outside and run.
Run until you feel alive again.
Crimson electricity
rushing through your core.
Wind in your hair.
Heart pounding in your chest.
And doesn’t that make you feel
more alive already?

It’s time to sort this out now.
Stop putting it off.
You are not old.
You’re not ill.
Do you realise what a blessing that is?
You can get your energy back.
You lost your fight,
somewhere along the road.

You used to be lean and strong.
You used to be fit.
You were beautiful,
in a wholesome,
girl next door sort of way.

You can find her again.
But you won’t find her,
unless you get off your arse,
and you go out and look.

‘No more beating my brains
With the liquor and drugs’
